An agreement in principle on the ILSAC GF-6A and GF-6B specifications has been set for a May 1, 2020 first license date. Last week’s API Lubricants Standards Group meeting had a unanimous vote to take ILSAC GF-6A, GF-6B, API SP and API SP Resource Conserving (RC) to a 30-day ballot. The ballots have issued and carry with them the expectation of a May 1, 2020 first licensing date.
The ILSAC GF-6A and GF-6B specifications define the minimum performance requirements and chemical and physical properties for engine oils for spark-ignited internal combustion engines. This specification is critical for fully optimizing fuel economy and preventing catastrophic wear in modern turbo gasoline direct injection (TGDI) or gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines.
It is expected that many engine manufacturers will recommend ILSAC GF-6A and/or GF-6B oils.
