Volkswagen VW50400/50700
VW50400/50700 oils are Top Tier lower SAPS¹ lubricants designed for use in high performance gasoline and light duty diesel engines where advanced aftertreatment systems such as Diesel Particulate Filters (DPFs) are used. In Europe, VW50400/50700 oils may also be used in many vehicle models where VW50200, VW50500 or VW50501 are specified.
VW50400/50700 oils are typically high HTHS (≥ 3.5cP) SAE 5W-30 based on a mix of API Group III and Group IV base oils.
The main physical and chemical requirements for VW50400/50700 oils are shown below:
Requirement | Method | Unit | Limit |
HTHS viscosity | CEC L-36-A-90 | cP | ≥ 3.5 |
Sulphated Ash | DIN 51575 | %wt | ≤ 1.5 |
Phosphorus | DIN 51363-3 | %wt | Report |
Sulfur | DIN EN ISO 14596 | %wt | Report |
Evaporation loss (NOACK) | CEC L-40-A-93 (B) | % | < 11 |
Total Base Number | DIN ISO 3771 | mgKOH/g | ≥ 6.0 |
VW50400/50700 is usually coupled with a range of different approvals depending on the viscosity grade of the lubricant, The most frequently seen approvals claimed in conjunction with VW50400/50700 being ACEA C3, MB229.51, MB229.31, BMW Longlife-04 and Porsche C30.
