ILSAC GF-4

ILSAC GF-4 was first introduced in 2004 for use in gasoline engines in passenger cars.

API has discontinued licensing engine oils against ILSAC GF-4 and it became an obsolete specification in September 2011.

API recommends that oils meeting the latest ILSAC standard are used in applications where ILSAC GF-4 is specified. Due to newer ILSAC standards (ILSAC GF-5) being suitable for use in applications specifying ILSAC GF-4 it is possible to find oils available today that claim to meet the requirements of ILSAC GF-4.

Oils meeting ILSAC GF-4 are typically low HTHS (≤ 3.5cP) SAE 10W-30, 5W-30, 0W-30, 5W-20 or 0W-20 based on API Group II, Group III or Group IV base oils and coupled with API SM and an energy conserving claim.
