ACEA A7 B7-23
ACEA A7/B7 oils are High Sulphated Ash, Phosphorus, Sulphur (SAPS) lubricants. They are designed for use in high performance gasoline and light-duty diesel engines that are designed to be capable of using a low viscosity oil. These oils may be unsuitable for use in some engines.
ACEA A7/B7 oils are typically low HTHS (≥ 2.9 and ≤ 3.5) based on API Group III base oils. The main physical and chemical requirements for ACEA A7/B7 are shown below:
Requirement | Method | Unit | Limit |
HTHS viscosity | CEC L-036-90 | cP | ≥ 2.9 and ≤ 3.5 |
Sulphated Ash | ASTM D874 | %m/m | ≤ 1.6 |
Phosphorus | ASTM D5185 or ASTM D4951 |
%m/m | Report |
Sulphur | ASTM D5185 or ASTM D4951 |
%m/m | Report |
Evaporative loss | CEC L-040-93 (Noack) | % | ≤ 13 |
Total Base Number | ASTM D2896 and ASTM D4739 |
mgKOH/g | Report ≥ 6.0 |
OEM approvals which are planned to be aligned to this category are currently unclear, but it is anticipated that the new category will be beneficial to those focusing on Low-Speed Pre-Ignition (LSPI) protection and Turbo Charger cleanliness, creating a high-performing high SAPS category.
By ACEAs own definition if a new test significantly changes the performance requirements of a category, then a new category must be introduced. The creation of ACEA A7/B7 builds on the requirements and updates of ACEA A5/B5, with the introduction of three new performance tests:
Test | Additional engine tests above A5/B5-21 |
CEC L-114-19 | Toyota Turbocharger Compression Deposits (diesel) |
ASTM D8291 Sequence IX | Low Speed Pre-Ignition GDI Turbo |
ASTM D8291 Sequence X | Chain Wear GDI |
