ACEA E7-21
ACEA E7-21 oils are Super High Performance Diesel (SHPD) lubricants for use in mid-drain applications.
ACEA E7-21 contains many elements of the North American API CI-4 specification. ACEA E7 is the minimum performance requirement for heavy duty applications.
The main physical and chemical requirements for ACEA E7-21 are shown below:
Requirement | Method | Unit | Limit |
HTHS viscosity | CEC L-36-A-90 | cP | ≥ 3.5 |
Sulphated Ash | ASTM D874 | %wt | ≤ 2.0 |
Phosphorus | ASTM D5185 | %wt | N/A |
Sulphur | ASTM D5185 | %wt | N/A |
Evaporation loss (NOACK) | CEC L-40-A-93 | % | ≤ 13 |
Total Base Number | ASTM D2896 | mgKOH/g | ≥ 9 |
ACEA E7-21 is typically grouped with a range of other approvals which may vary depending on the viscosity grade. Some examples of approvals that can be targeted in conjunction with ACEA E7-21 are Daimler MB-Approval 228.3, MAN M3275, Volvo VDS-3, Renault RLD-2, MACK EO-N & EO-M Plus, Caterpillar ECF-2, MTU Oil Category 2 and Deutz DQC III-18.
Many of the OEM approvals listed above build on top of an ACEA E7-16 baseline with additional performance requirements in areas such as wear protection and deposit control.
Changes
A number of changes to the requirements for ACEA E7-21 have been introduced in the ACEA 2021 issue of the oil sequences.
